Council hires school resource officer for technical institute

PA NEW BERLIN — New Berlin Borough Council approves school resource officer partnership with technical institute. The council voted unanimously to hire former officer Jason Engleman as a school resource officer for Sun Area Technical Institute at $29 per hour after Union County declined to renew its own SRO agreement with the school. Engleman will be hired as a New Berlin police officer with primary duty as school resource officer and may leave the position to respond to borough emergencies.
The council also hired Caleb Gehman as a police patrol officer on probationary status and passed an emergency resolution authorizing repairs to address subsidence at 600 Plum Street caused by pipe failure during Tropical Storm Debby.
